Mooring is not always a straightforward operation, especially when beyond not ideal wind and sea conditions a scarce space availability adds up. Quick Docking System

The QDS (Quick Docking System) was designed to carry out the mooring operations easily and intuitively by using the bow and stern thrusters and the boat’s thermal motor. The system is made up by different components linked by a CAN bus network, allowing a simple and safe installation guaranteeing a high operating reliability.

Thanks to the QDS MC3 joystick, the boat can be moved forward or backward, turned clockwise/anticlockwise, perform a translation towards the right or the left and move independently either the bow or the stern to the right or left.

  1. Vessels with mast (s) in place are more at risk in severe weather conditions. Owners are strongly advised to remove mast (s) for winter storage. All Sails and dodgers must be removed from vessels laid up ashore during the period 1st October to 31st March. On lift out, if sails etc. are still fitted, a removal charge will be made and may delay the lift out.
  2. All craft on trailers left in care must be immoblised and any attached outboard motors must be fitted with anti-theft device in addition to normal method of attachment.
  3. Whilst boats are ashore, no person is allowed to climb the mast or be hoisted aloft, or sleep aboard.
  4. Engines must not be started whilst the boats are ashore.
  5. If boats are stored undercover, all of the petrol is to be drained from the tanks.
  6. All rubbish, including discarded paint and solvent tins, must be disposed of in the skips provided.
  7. Engine Servicing – a charge of £5.00 will be applicable for the disposal of old engine oil and contaminated filters.
  8. A charge will be applied for the disposal of redundant batteries of £5.00 per unit.
  9. No welding, work with naked flames, or spray painting must take place.
  10. No smoking in the building or onboard boats.
  11. Only yard staff are allowed to move boat shores for whatever reason.
  12. All contractors to report to the Reception / Berthing Office on arrival and departure. Contractors to provide HYS RR with a copy of their third party liability insurance policy for a minimum of £5 million.
  13. Vessels being launched will be inspected for leaks at the time of launching before leaving our dock – no further inspection will take place unless specifically asked for – a further charge for this service will be made.
  14. LOA is length overall of the boat including davits, bowsprits, boarding ladders, sterndrives, tenders, outboards, rudders, anchors, pulpits, pushpits and any other extensions for and aft of the boat.

Winterisation

Typically this process includes the winterisation of the engine, generator, WC and batteries. A thorough check of the alternator, starter motor, engine mounts, lubricants and underwater fittings. Outdrive service, cathodic protection and full gas system check where applicable.

New yacht commissioning

  • HYSCS will ensure the safe offload onto the hard for antifouling before transferring to a dedicated commissioning berth.

Dock Trials will consist of equipment tests and propulsion tests while the vessel is still tied to the dock. After a satisfactory dock trial, the vessel is to proceed on sea trials on which electrical equipment will be tested and compass swinging carried out. Composite Repair

Using composites in boat building and repair is highly complex and requires expert skills and knowledge to ensure it is carried out correctly. From carefully calculating exactly how much fibre material and resin is required make sure a race yacht is as light as possible without losing any of the structural strength when under load, to carefully feathering in repairs, to creating a smooth neat finish around a mould, composite construction and repair is both a science and a fine art.

What Are Composites?

In the marine industry, composites are used to build new boats, new boat parts and to modify or repair existing hulls, interiors and equipment. The most common composites used are resin combined with e-glass, s-glass, aramid (kevlar) or carbon fibre to create a strong, durable and lightweight material that is incredibly versatile and can be used for many different boat repairs and modifications.

Composite Boat Building

Many modern boat hulls are now made entirely from composites. Multiple layers of fibres and a foam or Nomex (honeycomb) core are laid in or on moulds and then bonded together with resins. Composite hulls are strong and very lightweight in comparison to traditional wood or steel structures, and fibreglass has been a popular choice of composite for boat hulls for many years now. An improvement in carbon composite techniques and cost has seen and an influx of carbon masts and spars over recent years. A progressive step away from aluminium, carbon spars are stiffer, durable and extremely lightweight making them an essential choice for racing yachts as well as high performance and luxury cruisers.

Composite Boat and Spar Repair

Assessing composite damage is undertaken by means of Non Destructive Testing (NDT). Using NDT tools, the damage can be mapped and evaluated before any physical removal of material. Once the repair site has been established the work can usually be carried out without impacting the rest of the vessel significantly. However, it is a very specialist skill which involves scarfing the original layers and carefully laying in new ones to ensure structural strength is not compromised. If done well, composite repairs can be blended into a near invisible restoration.

Jet Thruster

The use of bow or stern thrusters has made manoeuvring vessels, large or small, much easier. This is the reason these thrusters have been seeing much wider application over the past few years. A Jet Thruster offers several benefits such as: Silent operation, no vulnerable propeller and very simple installation options. Many traditional thrusters do not work well in boats with a shallow draft at bow or stern. A Jet Thruster is the solutions in this case: The nozzles are located only 10 cm below the waterline.

The operation of the Jet Thruster is based on the sucking in of outside water. It is subsequently expelled through nozzles in the bow and/or stern side. To this end the Jet Thruster has been fitted with a powerful centrifugal pump, a three-way valve and electrical controls. Because the Jet Thruster does not use a propeller, no disturbing cavitation sound is produced.

The Jet Thruster does not require a tunnel tube, and the orifices, being only 60 mm in diameter, are very limited in size. This is why the Jet Thruster can also be used in vessels where placement of a bow or stern thruster is impossible. Moreover, the nozzles can be placed on the far ends, improving effectiveness and manoeuvrability.

Silent operation

In contrast to a conventional tunnel thruster, the Jet Thruster operation is quiet with no noise associated to a cavitating propeller.

No tunnel

With small flanged outlets through the hull, there is no need to drill large holes and no need for Fibreglassing. The Jet Thruster is ideal for boats that cannot fit a conventional retractable thruster or which are simply restricted by space.

One system for maximum control

There are three options, all delivering maximum control. The Jet Thruster Single for bow or Stern or the Combi will deliver the directional control you require for your boat in all weather conditions.

Stern-Jet

Install a stern Thruster in conjunction with your existing bow thruster for addional docking control.

Draft

If you have a shallow draft boat or little room to install then the Jet Thruster is the best solution. The outlets can be positioned inches below the waterline.

The adaptable system’s components allow for many installation options making it suitable for most boat models and sizes in today’s market.

Awlcraft SE

Awlcraft SE is a revolutionary new topcoat encompassing metallics, pearls and effect pigments and is fast drying with excellent opacity.

Awlcraft SE is designed to work as one layer of a multi-part system. The Awlcraft SE imparts the colour and effect and is then topcoated with a clear high gloss finish topcoat to give gloss and protection. This combination forms a high performance, high gloss robust topcoat system.

Awlwood

Awlwood is an exterior clear system that is made up of a Primer and Clear Finish (available as satin or gloss). By combining the Primer and Clear together, the synergistic effect results in an outstanding performing system that adheres and bonds directly to the wood cellular structure giving extended performance and retaining the same gloss, DOI and natural appearance as first application.
