What is Composite Rigging?
Composite Rigging is the steel of the future. It is extremely strong, lightweight material made from PBO, Carbon, Dyneema or Kevlar.
Why upgrade to Composite Rigging?
The performance benefits of reduced heel and pitching are significant due to the weight saving aloft. On new build boats this can be extended into requiring less keel weight but as a retro fit option there is a tangible improvement as less heel = more drive.
It’s easier than you think to retrofit composite rigging. The new products available have an improved design for retrofit. Such features allow you to use the existing mast fittings and spreader ends to save on time and cost.
What do the IRC Technical Committee say about Composite Rigging?
At the May 2010 meeting of the IRC Technical committee it was noted that: “the technology of composite standing rigging has matured significantly in recent years to the extent that it is now becoming close to mainstream……. There is now evidence that composite standing rigging has a life expectancy at least that of steel rod rigging"
