Ker 40's Provide Stunning Debut Performances.

Everyone at HYS would like to congratulate Andrew Pearce and the crew of Magnum III, who made a spectacular debut in their offshore campaign by taking IRC 1 and the overall win in the Morgan Cup 2012. Notably, Magnum III was only narrowly ahead of her sister ship , Keronimo; another Ker 40 belonging to Jonathan Goring.

This year the British IRC Nationals will also see five Ker 40’s line up against each other and race in the Solent. The two day event is run by the RORC from the 15th - 17th July.

The Ker 40, built by McConaghy is recognised as the first of the new breed of 40 footers designed to compete under IRC, and this event is the first time the fleet, based out of Hamble Yacht Services, will be assembling. Nick Griffith, The Ancasta Group MD, spoke on behalf of everyone when he said...

“ We are absolutely delighted to see such a fleet gathering so soon after the classes establishment. Worldwide, ten Ker 40’s have been delivered in the last 12 months to very experienced owners looking for a competitive 40 footer that is exciting to sail. Seeing such rapid growth in the class would indicate that the Ker 40 is delivering on that ambition. The IRC’s should provide some fabulous racing for these terrific boats.”

This year's fleet will include, Jamie McWilliams ‘Signal 8’ which is here to compete for Hong Kong in this year’s Commodores Cup. The British boats include Jonathan Goring’s ‘Keronimo’ Nigel Passmore’s ‘Apollo’; and Andrew Pearce’s ‘Magnum’. They'll be joined by Holland’s Peter de Graff with the very new ‘Baraka’.

HYS are withdrawing from operating the lifting and storage rights for Universal Marina with effect from 31st January 2012.

The marina operators are enthusiastic about their new venture and we are sure they will continue to provide the same level of service as Hamble Yacht Services Limited has provided for the past 10+ years.

We are naturally sad to be parting with our customers at Universal Marina and would like to take this opportunity to thank each one for their valued custom and support.

This decision is consistent with our desire to reshape our business thus allowing us to invest in and focus on improving the facilities of the full service boatyard at our Port Hamble site.

Hamble Yacht Services will continue to own and run the facility at Port Hamble as well as manage the lifting, launching and hard standing rights at Mercury Yacht Harbour. Both of these operations are unaffected by the changes at Universal Marina.

First Fairlie 55 launched on schedule ahead of sea trials

The new Fairlie 55 was successfully lifted into the water on Thursday becoming the first of the Spirit of Tradition class of quality sailing yachts to be launched.
The finely crafted yacht was transferred from Fairlie’s premises at Hamble Yacht Services to be lifted into the River Hamble under glorious sunshine. She is now moored alongside for the last stages of the production process, with her rig due to be stepped in the next couple of days and final finishing being undertaken ahead of sea trials over the coming weeks.

Fairlie’s Duncan Walker said: “It’s phenomenal what the team has achieved in the last seven months. I’ve been immensely proud of the work everyone has put in to ensure the whole process has been carried out to the very highest standard and on schedule. Now the most important thing is to go for a sail and we’re confident that her performance will live up to her looks.”

Following the successful turning of the hull in March, the build has progressed to plan and within weeks the yacht will be turning heads in the Solent as sea trials get underway.

Designer Paul Spooner said he was pleased to see the launch go so smoothly after such an intense period of preparation. “As a designer it is always a big day when the boat finally gets wet, but everything went to plan and we’re now looking forward to putting her through her paces under sail,” he said.

Following sea trials and visits from potential buyers, the Fairlie 55 will be transported to the South of France for an official launch at the Cannes International Boat and Yacht Show, which runs from 6-11 September. The Fairlie 55 will be on display in the Vieux Port giving visitors the chance to preview the
yacht in a world-class setting.

Alastair Shove of Ancasta Yachts, the exclusive international sales agents for the Fairlie 55, said: “We’re delighted to see the first Fairlie 55 successfully
lifted into the water on schedule today and look forward to showing our clients her superb performance to match her stylish looks over the coming weeks both in the Solent and at Cannes.”

As the first boat was lowered into the water, plans were already underway to commence the build of the next Fairlie 55. “Within the next two weeks we’ll start to laminate the frames for the next boat, so there’ll be little let up on the workload,” Duncan Walker said.

To follow the final stages of the Fairlie 55 build visit http://www.ancasta.com/ Fairlie for updates, images and footage.
